Stefan Oschmann
Stefan Oschmann is a Member of the Executive Board and General Partner of Merck KGaA, and the Chief Executive Officer of Merck Serono.  Dr. Oschmann joined Merck on January 1, 2011 and is responsible for the Pharmaceuticals business sector including the divisions, Merck Serono and Consumer Health Care.
Stefan Oschmann began his career in academic research at the Technical University of Munich.  In 1985, he joined the International Atomic Energy Agency. In 1989, he joined the U.S. corporation Merck & Co, Inc. (outside North America: MSD – Merck Sharp & Dohme), where he started in Regulatory Affairs, and Science Policy. Following various positions, he moved into general management in Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria, and was appointed Vice President of Central and Eastern Europe in 1998 and Vice President of Europe in 1999.
Until 2005 Stefan Oschmann was also in charge of the German business of Merck & Co. In 2005, he moved to the headquarters of Merck & Co., taking on the role of Senior Vice President in charge of Worldwide Human Health Marketing. In 2006, he became Member of the Senior Management and Corporate Officer, as President of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada. From 2009, Stefan Oschmann served as President of Emerging Markets for Merck & Co.
Dr. Oschmann was born in Würzburg, Germany and obtained a degree in veterinary medicine and a PhD at the University of Munich.
He is a board member of the German Association of Research-based Pharmaceutical companies (vfa).
Stefan Oschmann is married and has two children.
